DON'T GO OUT | International Day Against Depression | Dance Performance

On the International Day Against Depression we invite you to the dance performance “Don't Go Out” — an artistic take on the problem of depression among children and young people.

A fast-paced world, excessive demands and a culture of success, constantly present on smartphone screens, encourage comparing oneself to others, undermining self-worth and lowering self-esteem. According to the Forum Against Depression, as many as 20% of older teenagers suffered from clinical depression in 2022. The scale of the phenomenon shows how much young people today need mindfulness, support and open conversations about mental health.

The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that within a few years depression will become the most common illness worldwide. The mission of the “Don't Go Out” project is to build awareness, empathy and mutual respect in the local community and among students of Warsaw schools by combining psychoeducation with art. It is an attempt to highlight the problem, encourage responding and mutual support.

The dance performance “DON'T GO OUT” is performed by the Dance Theatre Group from the Out-of-School Activity Center “70”. The production is the finale of the project “Don't Go Out – artistically on the problem of depression among children and young people”, within which a theatrical-dance spectacle was created addressing a difficult but extremely important topic in an accessible and moving form. The performance tells about the everyday life of the younger generation, extreme emotions and decisions that can lead to dramatic consequences. Yet — if young people learn to notice each other — there is always a chance for a different solution.

The Dance Theatre Group has been active since 2018 at the Out-of-School Activity Center “70” in Mokotów. It has staged “Magic Present”, “So Green” and “Christmas Show”, viewed by over 4,500 spectators in Masovia and Lower Silesia. “Don't Go Out” will feature 23 dancers aged 12–19, who for years have been developing their dance and theatre passions. The performance is the result of cooperation between young artists, choreographers, parents and project partners.
