The outbreak of war in 1914 forces Barbara Niechcic to leave Kaliniec and, with the help of the old Jew Szymszel, seek shelter. On the journey she recalls her life, all the nights and days.

An outstanding adaptation of Maria Dąbrowska's novel in two parts, “Bogumił i Barbara” and “Wiatr w oczy”. The film features the performances of a lifetime by Jadwiga Barańska and Jerzy Bińczycki, unforgettable music by Waldemar Kazanecki, and production design that revived a bygone world.
