Join us for a discussion about a book that resists simple categories. “Bugs” is a story about insects and spiders, but also about mourning, loss and the attempt to find meaning in a world that suddenly loses coherence.
Fascination with what is small, strange and often repulsive becomes here a mirror for the human condition – fragile, broken, put to the test.
In his book Marek Rosłan shows how the world of “bugs” penetrates myths, history and pop culture, while also asking questions about the limits of anthropocentrism, ethics toward what is radically other, and the mechanisms of dehumanization. It is surprisingly timely reading – in a time of crisis of memory, of our relationship with nature and the need for a new language to describe the world.
Marek Rosłan – a Polish author and amateur entomologist. “Bugs” (Nisza Publishing) is his book debut, combining a passion for the natural world with personal reflection on mourning, psychology and ethics.
OT Reading Club is a space for conversation about literature that moves, provokes and stays with us longer. We welcome everyone – whether you have already read the book or are only planning to pick it up.
See you at JCC Warsaw!
