    About the event

Book launch: Dr. Sara Herczyńska’s “Oddamawianie”.

A discussion about the book Oddamawianie. Museum practices in relation to domestic spaces.

What happens to a house when it becomes a museum? What is the process of “making unhomely”, and can the authenticity of a museum object be produced years later? In the book Oddamawianie. Museum practices in relation to domestic spaces, Sara Herczyńska analyzes cases of houses transformed into museum institutions, searches for traces of the houses’ inhabitants, and reads museum practices through memory studies and cultural theory, while staying close to concrete, real or imagined details — Kasztanka’s hoof of Józef Piłsudski, Maksymilian Kolbe’s striped garment, the basement of the Żabiński villa in the Warsaw Zoo, and hidden spaces in Władysław Broniewski’s house.

The meeting will be led by Anka Wandzel – essayist, anthropologist, mother of two children, member of the MOST cooperative farm. Author of the book “Sztuka przetrwania” and of various texts about the intersections of environment, culture and care work.
