Screening with a lecture exploring the film’s female figures and emotional core.
A film screening preceded by a lecture by Prof. Katarzyna Taras on the eve of the director’s 100th birthday. The Senate of the Republic of Poland declared 2026 the Year of Andrzej Wajda. We invite you to a screening of one of his most personal films – “Everything for Sale” (1968). It is a story about loss, memory, and the artist’s responsibility toward reality. The film was made in the shadow of the tragic death of Zbigniew Cybulski and became a moving reflection on the boundary between life and cinema – between what is private and what is captured on film. The screening will be preceded by a lecture from Prof. Katarzyna Taras, which will focus on the female element in the film – on the heroines who remain in the shadow of the male myth while bearing the story’s greatest emotional weight. We will examine their presence, strength, and significance within the narrative structure. Katarzyna Taras (1973) – Graduate of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Doctor habilitated in the humanities. Professor at the National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź, lecturer at the Warsaw Film School. Film historian and critic. She focuses on theoretical aspects of cinematography. In love with the cinema of Wojciech Jerzy Has. Author of five books: Witkacy and Film (2005), Egoist or “Edi”? Heroes of the Newest Polish Films – a Reconnaissance (2007), Frustrates. Filmic and Literary Characters in Relation to Polish Reality after 1989 (2012), Wink at Them. A Tale about Krzysztof Ptak (2023), and with Ryszard Lenczewski Without a Tape There Is No Film. A Spoken Handbook of Cinematography (2025). In November 2025 she published Master’s Zooming, co-edited with Paweł Edelman and Piotr Kukla. Constant inspirations – the Middle East and the Tatra Mountains.
