📍 Nowy Teatr
The SOLO concert by the leader of Pink Freud and the Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet is an intimate, highly atmospheric, almost cinematic wordless story — a moving love story between the artist and his instrument. The double bass is presented as a melodic instrument, played with exceptional attentiveness and tenderness, revealing the richness and depth of its sound. The album "Solo" surprises with subtle arrangements (harp, flute, percussion instruments, gentle electronics, whispers) and captivates from the first bars. The musical tale draws you in, uncovering sonic and compositional details and creating a space for concentration without falling into new-age clichés.
The single "My Works Of Art" is the only non-instrumental track on the album — whispered in a duet of voices over the bass pulse. The second single "Dark Ecology" surprises with a hypnotic, almost micro-house groove. The track "Sylfy" combines the organic sound of the double bass with a synthesizer background, and in "Rodeo Spirit" you can hear a subtle, acoustic guitar accompaniment by Wojtek. Collaborators and producers: harpist Marysia Osu (episodic but important role), producers Wojtek Mazolewski and Wojtek Urbański, and mastering by Grammy-winning Ben Rawlins. Part of the material was created while composing music for the play "OK.NO" for the Stary Theatre in Lublin.
Mazolewski is a respected figure on the international scene: albums by his quintet and solo projects have received recognition in publications such as DownBeat, on BBC (Gilles Peterson) and in international reviews. critics' quotes emphasize the cinematic, human and engaging character of the album.
