About the event

Partner dance technique in balfolk - Scottish - basics and variations

Free workshop - Polish group dances
⏰ 11:00 - 12:00
Facebook
Voluntary donation

Foundations and partner technique - balfolk Scottish
⏰ 12:30 - 14:30
The workshop is aimed at people who would like to learn the basics of balfolk partner dances and polish technique if they already dance a bit.

We will learn:

  • lead and follow technique in balfolk partner dances
  • the basic Scottish step
  • how to build connection with a partner in dance, how to lead clearly, follow and listen to each other skillfully in dance (not only balfolk!)

This workshop is for you if:

  • you have been dancing balfolk for some time but want to review basic steps and work on better partner communication
  • you don't have much experience dancing partner dances and want to learn them

Variations (and craziness) in partner dances
⏰ 15:30 - 17:30
A bit of craziness in dance. If you want to add some freshness to your dance practice, this workshop is for you. We will learn a few simple variations that diversify balfolk partner dances such as Scottish and mazurka.

The workshop will suit people who:

  • know the basic steps of the above dances and feel comfortable with them
  • are looking for new ideas and inventiveness to vary their dance

We will focus both on:

  • figures and movements that arise organically from the body, not artificial choreography
  • rhythmic variations that allow playful dancing

You can attend both workshops, also if you are a beginner. The workshops will also be valuable for people who already dance. If you have attended a similar workshop by the instructor before — there will be new things, something for everyone. If you wonder whether the workshop level will suit you — contact the instructor.

About the instructor:

Natalia Klamann draws from various dance styles; for over 11 years she has explored the wide world of balfolk and traditional dances, and also teaches contact improvisation. She has danced (and danced): fusion, contemporary dance, forró, tango, blues, oriental dances, flamenco; she practices yoga and mindfulness. She is interested in a somatic approach and Body Mind Centering.
She has taught at festivals and residencies abroad and in Poland (including Warsaw, Kraków, Łódź, Wrocław). For several years she organized Numinosum Festival and co-created Warsaw's Chata Numinosum.
