Before the outbreak of World War II, 30% of Warsaw's population was Jewish. The tragic years of occupation, the ghetto uprising in 1943, the Warsaw Uprising, systematic burning and demolition of the city by the occupiers, as well as post-war reconstruction and the emigration of Jews who survived the war's devastation, have left few traces of the Jewish community in modern Warsaw. 📅 We meet on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 4:00 PM at the intersection of Chłodna and Żelazna streets. The walk is expected to last about 80 minutes. During the walk, we will learn: - Where and when did Jews arrive? - Who were the "Litvaks"? - Where was the footbridge between the small and large ghettos? - How did Poles help Jews during the occupation? - Where can we find the site of execution of Poles who saved Jews? - Who went to help a sick Jew and met their own death? - Which routes were used to escape to the Aryan side? - Where did Władysław Szpilman play the piano? - Where did the "nightingale of the ghetto" sing? - Where was usury combated? - Where did the Great Synagogue stand? - and many more... Participation in the walk is free of charge, but if you feel the guide deserves a tip, it is appreciated. The walk will be led by a city guide from Warszawski Zaułek. You are warmly invited and see you there.
