Hypnotic doom meets dark folk – at the beginning of the year, Poland will host the unique project Bell Witch and Aerial Ruin, known as Stygian Bough. Stygian Bough is a unique collaboration between the monumental doom metal duo Bell Witch (Dylan Desmond and Jesse Shreibman) and the acoustic, atmospheric project Aerial Ruin (Erik Moggridge). Their cooperation began over a decade ago – Moggridge appeared on Bell Witch’s debut album “Longing” (2012), and later returned on “Four Phantoms” (2015) and the breakthrough “Mirror Reaper” (2017). Their shared energy naturally evolved into a new project, whose first installment, “Stygian Bough Volume I,” was released in 2020, combining monumental, funereal doom with intimate, acoustic minimalism. The trio is now preparing for the premiere of “Volume II,” further developing their hypnotic, emotionally deep sound. Live, their music creates an experience that balances overwhelming heaviness with a subtle, melancholic aura. An equally important highlight of the evening will be the performance of 40 Watt Sun – the band led by Patrick Walker, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary doom metal. The group returned in 2024 with the album “Little Weight,” recorded at London’s Holy Mountain Studios with producer Chris Fullard (Sunn O))), IDLES, Ulver). Unlike the previous “Perfect Light” (2022), Walker opted for a simpler and more spontaneous recording process, capturing the sincerity and directness of emotion. The result is a collection of intimate, melancholic compositions that blend the band’s doom heritage with a poetic character.
