Koszykowa 34/50 - Free admission - In-person meeting - Books available on-site - The author will sign books after the meeting ABOUT THE BOOK One of the most high-profile cases in Polish criminology. The whole of Poland was talking about it. December 1997. Six shots are fired in the Ultimo boutique in Warsaw. A man dies on the spot, a woman—the store manager—miraculously survives. The lack of evidence suggests that the execution might have been carried out by a hitman, with gangster feuds as the backdrop. Yet, Beata Pasik, a store employee, is accused. Although the court acquits her twice, the third time—based on the same evidence—a verdict is issued: twenty-five years in prison. In 2021, after more than two decades, thanks to the efforts of many people, including the author of the book, Beata is conditionally released from prison but not acquitted. "I won't confess, I didn't kill"—she has been repeating for over twenty years. Grzegorz Głuszak, one of the people who contributed to Tomasz Komenda's acquittal, also examines this case. Was it a tragic mistake? Did the system or people fail? Or did someone deliberately steer the investigation in the wrong direction? Discover the behind-the-scenes of a years-long journalistic investigation, conversations with experts, newly conducted experiments that prove an innocent person was convicted. Will the truth finally come to light? ABOUT THE AUTHOR GRZEGORZ GŁUSZAK - investigative journalist specializing in crime, reporter associated with TVN, and programs "Superwizjer" and "Uwaga!" He is the author of high-profile reports on Tomasz Komenda.
