"Polishness, or the unbearable lightness... of interpretation?" | meeting with Dr. Piotr Kościński, Dr. habil. Radosław Lolo, Olgierd Łukaszewicz, and Dr. Dorota Wejchert | hosted by Dr. habil. Wawrzyniec Konarski An attempt to answer the question of what Polishness is and how we understand it today. The guests will look at this topic from many perspectives. Dr. Dorota Wejchert will take us on a journey through the spaces of cities and imagination, showing how urban planning, architecture, and art shape our understanding of Polishness. Olgierd Łukaszewicz will present the challenges related to placing Polishness within Europe, recalling the contribution of Wojciech Bogumił Jastrzębowski to the idea of European integration. Dr. habil. Radosław Lolo will discuss the historical conditions of Poles' political culture – from the legacy of the First Polish Republic, through the times of partitions, the Polish People's Republic, up to the present day. Dr. Piotr Kościński will look at the Eastern Borderlands and consider whether the Polishness cultivated there is "more Polish," and Dr. habil. Wawrzyniec Konarski will address the dispute over the meaning of the terms "nationalism" and "patriotism," which are often used instrumentally in Polish political discourse. The meeting will be an opportunity to talk about what still shapes our identity and how diverse the perspectives on Polishness can be – in history, art, political culture, and everyday life.
