About the event

On the first day of spring we invite you to create birds — winged wooden creatures that are abundant in the garden at this time. We will be sawing, drilling and hammering small nails, and those who wish can paint their wooden birds. As usual, we will say goodbye to winter and welcome spring so that everything can turn beautifully green.

On selected weekends in autumn and spring we move the Tinkering Workshop out to the garden. Simple carpentry and garden play — we invite slightly older children who want to start or develop their adventure with wood.

  • Slices and pieces of wood, slats and sticks.
  • Nails, dowels and basic tools: hammers, saws, drills.
  • Each time we propose a different main theme, e.g. building vehicles, ships, making little figures — fairy-tale heroes, princesses and robots — or perhaps something else?
  • Besides wood, we have various finishing materials: paints, cords, fabric scraps and glue; the work can be left at the wood stage or finished and decorated in different ways.

We invite you to the green Garden Workshop, which has space for workshops and room and time for play. Some people believe that the garden is the most important part of the Sto Pociech Foundation. Our meetings with children in the garden reflect our approach to the world and supporting children in their development.

We are convinced that for the harmonious development of children we should provide them with contact with nature. We allow for experience (which can sometimes be wet and dirty) and create the possibility of play with simple yet highly creative materials: sand, water, pebbles and sticks. An extension of this is working with wood, which we offer to slightly older children.

We want children living in a large, concrete city to be able to freely look for bugs, carve channel systems and, in contact with the natural world, spontaneously do a hundred other things that come to their minds. Therefore the area is not completely “arranged”, maybe even a little “neglected” — shrubs grow freely so that you can build hideouts among them, and hedgehogs live in the undergrowth by the fence.

Organisational information

  • We invite children aged 4 to 10 with a guardian so that with their support the child can make their construction; if you want to come with a younger child, that is possible.
  • Please dress according to the weather and in clothes that can get dirty. Note — we are not afraid of cold, passing rain, drizzle; we still work in the garden. If on the day of the meeting the weather makes activity impossible (heavy rain, gale), we will change the event date.
  • Bring snacks for the whole family. We also invite you for coffee and a little something at the Sto Pociech café.
