Nature workshops with a walk for adults We invite individuals who want to start their adventure with botany, as well as those who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in identifying herbaceous plants, to join our nature workshops combined with practical activities in the gardens. We will discover them among the seemingly uniform greenery commonly referred to as "grass." However, it hides a vast number of different plant species, surprising in appearance, properties, and extraordinary life strategies. 📅 Dates: - April 5 – "Early Spring" - May 25 – "Spring" - August 24 – "Summer" - October 19 – "Autumn" ⏰ Duration of meetings: 4 hours, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM 📍 Location: New Palm House (meeting and workshop venue) and Gardens 💰 Admission: 30 PLN/person 🎟️ Tickets available online: https://bilety.lazienki-krolewskie.pl/rezerwacja/termin.html 📞 Additional information: (+48) 519 330 000 or [email protected] During meetings with an expert, we will also learn to identify edible and poisonous plants. The ability to distinguish them will be useful in everyday life, especially when we feel the need to pause and practice mindfulness in contact with nature. The Royal Łazienki Gardens are an excellent place for this – an important point on Warsaw's nature map. The uniqueness of this place lies in its diversity: here, alongside typical garden plants, we also find those that grow wild in forests or meadows. Each meeting will begin with a presentation and discussion with a specialist, followed by a short break and then a field trip to search for unique herbaceous plants growing in the Łazienki Gardens. 👨🏫 Led by: Łukasz Karabowicz – interested in nature since the age of 12, when he received his first camera. His studies at SGGW in Warsaw solidified his main interest – botany. He is a graduate of forestry and postgraduate studies in tourism and forest education. He is also a nature educator and currently serves as the head of the Nature and Forest Education Center. 🌱 Meeting topics: - April 5 – "Early Spring" During the first meeting, we will delve into the world of herbaceous plants at the transition between winter and spring. We will consider what causes plants to start growing, answer questions about where and how they overwinter, and discuss the impact of climate change. We will also explore various life strategies of common species and learn ways to identify early spring plant species. Then, we will embark on a walk to reinforce the information just acquired. In the field, we will search for plant heralds of spring. - May 25 – "Spring" We continue exploring the world of spring plants. Often, we hear about the "spring explosion" – during the meeting, we will discuss this phenomenon. We will focus on the dynamic changes occurring in nature at this time of year. We will learn about a group of ephemeral plants – geophytes, which appear only for a few spring weeks each year. We will discuss the possibilities of using these and other plants in cooking or medicine. Then, we will go for a walk to search for spring plants. It will be an opportunity to admire the diverse shapes and colors of spring flowers found in the Gardens. - August 24 – "Summer" The world of plants during the summer meeting is entirely different from before. It is the peak of the growing season, and all plants, taking advantage of favorable conditions, grow intensively. Summer is also marked by flowering – especially in open spaces, such as meadows and forest clearings. During the meeting, we will discuss various flowers that can be found there, ways to maintain open areas in the landscape, and the significant ecological role these places play. We will visit flower meadows in the Łazienki Gardens and get acquainted with the plants growing there in practice. - October 19 – "Autumn" Autumn is the final phase of the growing season. Plants gradually stop growing – most have already produced fruits and seeds, and some have scattered them. The last meeting will focus on how plants prepare for winter dormancy and how they disperse. We will examine seeds and their unique properties. During the session, we will also learn about a group of autumn-flowering plants that mark their presence at the end of the season. We will consider their role in nature. The meeting will conclude with an autumn walk through the Royal Gardens, during which we will search for the autumn richness of plants and summarize the series of meetings.
