The exhibition “Unimaginable. The Void After the Great Synagogues” draws attention to the scale of lost pre-war monuments – monumental synagogues. The reason for their destruction was hatred and violence: hatred of everything Jewish, and violence against people and their material culture. Annihilated and – from today's perspective – unimaginable, these beautiful, large synagogues were not rebuilt after World War II. Bringing together examples from thirteen towns across Poland, the exhibition serves both to commemorate and to educate about this irretrievably lost heritage.
