We invite you to a meeting with the author of books about Warsaw in August and September 1944. Although it seems that everything has already been written about the Warsaw Uprising, don't be deceived. The topic is still not exhausted. Agnieszka Cubała proves this. This is also evidenced by the little-known stories of the 'peżetki' (women belonging to the Soldier Assistance Service), who created over 30 soldier inns, which, within the limits of the uprising's possibilities, served as an oasis of peace and forgetfulness, offering the fighters a semblance of a lost home. Meals were eaten there, concerts were organized, and even modest wedding receptions were held, masses were celebrated. And in some, there were even... libraries. Our guest will tell us about the extraordinary 'peżetki.' But that's not all, because we will also talk about the people who fought in the uprising, and they were primarily young people. It is to them that this event owes its legend, but also the strong emotions that always accompany discussions on this topic. What did young people feel at that time, what thoughts accompanied them? We rarely think about this. Agnieszka Cubała is the author of 16 popular science books (14 of them about the Warsaw Uprising), including bestsellers such as: 'Miłość’44,' 'Kobiety’44,' 'Artyści’44,' 'Wolność’44,' 'Zwyczajni’44.' She collaborated with the Warsaw Uprising Museum, coordinating work on the realization of the permanent exhibition scenario of this institution, developed original entries for the Great Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Warsaw Uprising, and consulted two chapters of the Polish edition of Norman Davies' book 'Powstanie’44.' The two latest books by Agnieszka Cubała premiered on August 1, 2025. These are 'Peżetki’44. Uprising Stories of Women from the Soldier Assistance Service' and 'Młodzi’44. The Warsaw Uprising Described Through Emotions.' 📅 What, where, when? - Author meeting with Agnieszka Cubała - Library No. 125, ul. Czerniakowska 38a - September 24 (Wednesday), 5:00 PM
