Queer themes in the National Museum's collection / Marcin Matuszewski Can queer history be found in the National Museum's collections? Can the figures depicted in our collection's works speak to the contemporary experiences of LGBTQ+ people? Join us for a unique tour, during which we will explore queer contexts, non-heteronormative narratives, and alternative interpretations of well-known works. We will look for subtle gestures, glances, symbols, and relationships that may suggest a diversity of identities—both those intentionally hidden and those unintended by the creators but rediscovered today. This tour is an invitation to view art from an inclusive perspective, open to multiple interpretations. It is intended for everyone who wants to better understand how queer sensitivity can coexist with the heritage of national culture. Tickets at 30 and 15 PLN, available online and at the National Museum ticket office from October 28 - November 15 Medieval art full of splendor / Monika Jabłońska Discover the richest collection of medieval art in Poland, featuring works from the 12th to the early 16th century. Monumental altarpieces that once adorned Gothic churches still inspire awe today. Polychrome sculptures created in the workshops of old master craftsmen impress with their expressive forms or subtle, elegant stylization. Exploring the rich symbolism, theological truths, and legends conveyed in art allows us to glimpse the world through the eyes of people living in medieval times. Tickets at 30 and 15 PLN, available online and at the National Museum ticket office from November 4 - November 22 Olga Boznańska – an artist of the late 19th century / Olga Boznańska was a painter with an individual style. Her original technique and approach to art resulted in a unique atmosphere, depth, and space in her paintings. During the tour, we will discuss her works, also considering the cultural changes that occurred in the artistic and social spheres at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Krakow, Munich, and above all Paris were places where new artistic trends were formed. Discussions about art held there increasingly highlighted the issue of women's emancipation. We will look at the artistic circles close to Boznańska, as well as the unique and original character of her work. The tour includes a temporary display of Olga Boznańska's works in the 19th Century Art Gallery and her paintings presented in the permanent exhibition. Tickets at 30 and 15 PLN, available online and at the National Museum ticket office from November 11 - November 29 Masterpieces – the National Museum in a nutshell / Monika Miżołębska Almost five thousand works in six galleries, and only 90 minutes to visit? Don't worry—leave it to us! During the tour, we discover the "best"—the most famous, the most valuable, the most beloved, and also the most surprising pieces in the National Museum in Warsaw's collection. We will look for the oldest object in the Ancient Art Gallery, wonder how much the blind doors weigh, and in the Faras Gallery, gaze into the eyes of... the Nubian Mona Lisa. There will be no shortage of great names, such as Botticelli, and icons of Polish design. And, of course, the opportunity for a group photo in front of the largest painting in the museum—Jan Matejko's Battle of Grunwald. Tickets at 30 and 15 PLN, available online and at the National Museum ticket office from November 18 - December 6 The collection in the glow of gold / Katarzyna Ampt Gold has been coveted and fired the imagination for millennia, but this precious metal has also played a major role in the service of art—both lofty, sacred, and utilitarian.
