As part of the series "Observatory of Ideas: Inspirations," we invite you to a master lecture by Prof. Ivan Krastev, an outstanding Bulgarian political scientist, publicist, and political philosopher. ✨ Date: November 26, 2025 Time: 18:00 Venue: Warsaw School of Economics 🆓 Free admission upon prior registration. 🔗 Registration link: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/GrypNkYwss After the end of the Cold War, American political scientist Francis Fukuyama presented the concept of the "last man" as a free person, but lacking ambition, polite but unheroic, someone "castrated" by the satisfaction of their desires, but very likable. He is married to democracy, but we suspect he is no longer in love with it. The "last man" in Prof. Krastev's lecture is different. He appeared when history returned. He is restless and distrustful. He is gripped by demographic anxiety. He believes he lives at the end of times. He tends to believe that the next election should be the last. Why is he so terrified? Where does he come from? What can we expect from him? How will he change our idea of democracy? The special guest of the next master lecture in the Observatory of Ideas: Inspirations series will attempt to answer these questions. Ivan Krastev is the president of the Centre for Liberal Strategies and a permanent fellow at the Albert Hirschman Institute for Human Sciences (Institute for Human Sciences) in Vienna. He is a founding member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Crisis Group, and a member of the Board of Directors of GLOBSEC. He is a contributing editor to the "Financial Times" and the author of several books. In Poland, the following have been published: - "Democracy of the Distrustful. Political Essays" (Krytyka Polityczna Publishing, 2013) - "After Europe?" (Krytyka Polityczna Publishing, 2018) - "Tomorrow Has Arrived. How the Pandemic Changes Europe" (Krytyka Polityczna Publishing, 2020) - "The Light That Failed. How the West Lost Its Followers" (co-author Stephen Holmes, Krytyka Polityczna Publishing, 2020) ____________ The event is another meeting in the "Observatory of Ideas: Inspirations" series, in which we organize meetings with the most outstanding intellectuals and scientists from Poland and abroad.
