The exhibition will be open throughout February during the library's working hours.
📅
Opening reception: February 6, 5:00 PM.
“Małgorzata Kapłan is not an abstractionist, but—whether she wants to be or not—she somewhat uses the language of abstraction. I am referring here to the way she constructs compositions, shapes and the colour of objects visible within the frame of her canvases. Her paintings, composed of small and ever smaller colourful spots, create images of trees, houses, park benches, clouds, leaves in the wind, reflections on the water, etc. Each of these small spots is a component of the Great World and without even one of them that World would be incomplete. For the artist, colour is the most important element and she uses it consciously with full respect for the tradition of colourism, but also for the tradition of Young Poland painting. Here blue means blue, red means red and green means green. Colour is always accurate; intuition never fails the painter. Colour — besides being a value in itself — also serves a subordinate function, for example in suggesting the space of expansive landscapes.” Jerzy Pomian, “Małgorzata Kapłan: Description of the World”
