It is one of the most picturesque spots in the region – limestone towers rise steeply above beech forests and colorful meadows, creating a breathtaking landscape. We set out from the village of Červený Kameň, located on the Slovak side of the range. We follow the yellow trail, passing traditional orchards and entering the autumn forest. Along the way, we pass scenic clearings with panoramas of Červenokamenské bradlo – rocks with warm, reddish hues, protected as a nature reserve. In the distance, you can also see other ranges: the Strážov Mountains, Súľov Mountains, and Malá Fatra. The route leads through the Vršatské bradlá Nature Reserve, along an educational path with information boards. After a gentle ascent, we reach the pass below Chmelová (925 m) – the second highest peak of the White Carpathians. A short but steep climb rewards us with views of white limestone towers contrasting with the red of beeches and the gold of autumn. From the pass, we continue towards the next peak – Biely vrch (White Hill), known for its vast beech forests and meadows that shine with intense colors in autumn. This part of the route offers gentle ascents and descents, as well as numerous viewpoints of nearby mountain ranges and picturesque orchards where the region's characteristic oskoruš trees grow. After descending, we return to the trail and head towards the village of Vršatské Podhradie. Here awaits another attraction – the ruins of Vršatec Castle, one of the highest located castles in Slovakia. Built in the 13th century on a steep limestone hill, it was meant to defend the northern borders of the Kingdom of Hungary. Today, you can admire fragments of walls and a beautiful panorama of mountains and forests. There is also a local legend about a faithful castellan who, to save his lord from Tatar captivity, sacrificed his own leg by cutting the chain that bound them... This peaceful but scenic walk is the perfect warm-up for the start of our White Carpathian adventure. On this day, we cover 12 km and 710 meters of ascent. https://mapy.com/s/curulosuna Day 2 of our journey: Veľká Javorina – the highest peak of the White Carpathians!
