    About the event

This walk will focus on the work of a legendary artist. The most popular Polish post-war painter, Zdzisław Beksiński. In June 2021, a temporary exhibition of the artist's works was opened at the Archdiocesan Museum in Warsaw. The paintings come from the collection of Piotr and Anna Dmochowski, as well as the museum itself. This is the exhibition we will see during the tour. Zdzisław Beksiński (1929-2005) is definitively a creator who evokes great emotions. Interest in the painter goes far beyond art enthusiasts, not only because the master also engaged in design, sculpture, and photography. It is simply hard to remain indifferent to the work of the artist from Sanok. Moreover, his work has inspired many creations in pop culture: films, computer games, Virtual Reality programs, as well as tattoos. From the vast amount of archival materials he left behind, a figure emerges who greatly valued creative independence. The painter was so determined not to be dependent on the opinions of others that he very rarely, and if so, very reluctantly, commented on his art. He could also only occasionally be found at exhibitions of his works, and mostly at the beginning of his painting career. The artist's art dealer from Sanok was Piotr Dmochowski, a Polish-born Parisian lawyer who for many years ran galleries of Beksiński's paintings in the French capital. The relationship between the painter and the art dealer was very turbulent, although it must be admitted that Dmochowski was deeply committed to promoting Beksiński, both financially and by dedicating a large part of his life to him. A film was even made about this, which premiered at the Cannes festival. Currently, Piotr and Anna Dmochowski own the largest private collection of the artist's works. I have been guiding tours of Beksiński's exhibitions for almost two years, yet during each tour, I am always intrigued by the level of emotions his paintings evoke, as well as the multitude of impressions and interpretations from participants. Visiting Beksiński's exhibition is an interesting experience. However, visiting the exhibition with a guide and the opportunity to share impressions and ask questions often becomes a deeply moving and intriguing experience. I am a guide with 14 years of experience. I lead 28 different thematic tours in Polish and English. I am a lover of art, history, cinema, and music. I have designed and lead three different tours about Beksiński's work. See you on the tour! Paweł Mrozowicz
