    About the event

DATE AND MEETING PLACE: 📅 Thursday, September 11 at 6:30 PM, at the Monument to the Heroes of the Warsaw Uprising at the corner of Solec and Wilanowska streets - I will be waiting with a sign. After the evacuation of the Old Town and the quick fall of Powiśle, the insurgent command began to consider capitulation. However, the liberation of Praga by the Red Army in the first half of September 1944 reignited hope for the success of the uprising. The last chance was to hold Czerniaków Powiśle, which, being adjacent to the river, offered the possibility of receiving direct support from the other side of the Vistula. To this end, the remnants of the elite "Radosław" group, including soldiers from the "Zośka" battalion, heroes of the recent daring breakthrough "over the top" to Śródmieście, were sent to Czerniaków. During the walk, you will learn, among other things: - What were the fates of "Andrzej Morro" and his comrades-in-arms in Czerniaków? - Why did the "Berling troops" landing end in failure? - What route did the last insurgents take to evacuate from Czerniaków Powiśle? - How were the battles in this district commemorated during the PRL era? - Where was the Mermaid monument by Konstanty Hegel located during the Uprising? - Who managed to break through to Śródmieście for the second time? Participation in the walk is free, but if you enjoy it, you can reward the guide afterward. Best regards, Szymon, licensed Warsaw guide
