Ornate tenement houses, dark and dangerous courtyards, temples of commerce... Smoked herrings, chocolate, watches, and beer. Legendary taverns (one of them frequented by Warsaw's elite, where the owner drinks a bottle of spirit in one gulp). Elegant salons, their hosts, and regulars. All of this just behind the Iron Gate!
