In the short January days, urban hikes work best, so we invite you to… Radom! This historic city in northern Małopolska is completely different from the rest of Mazovia, although today, due to various twists of fate, it has found itself within its administrative borders. At the same time, it is a really large city (over 200,000 inhabitants) with a rich and very interesting history. During our January micro-adventure, we will see a city that has preserved its urban layout from the 10th century to the present day. We will learn about its connections with Jacek Malczewski and Tytus Chałubiński. We will also see the folk face of the Radom Land while strolling through the picturesque and empty open-air museum at this time of year, which adds to its charm.

PROGRAM:
Meeting on January 18, 2025, at 07:45 in the parking lot under the Palace of Culture and Science, opposite the entrance to the Kinoteka. Departure towards Radom at 07:50. Return to Warsaw around 20:00.
Radom Village Museum – established on December 31, 1976, the museum currently occupies 32.5 hectares and contains 80 objects, such as cottages, forges, windmills, and water mills, as well as rich collections of agricultural tools and machines. Here we will learn what life was like in the Radom region in the past.
Radom – Old Town – here we will explore the relics of the oldest, pre-colonial part of the city. Among other things, we will see the well-preserved settlement at Piotrówka and the oldest church in the city dedicated to St. Wenceslaus. From the Old Town, we will walk towards the Kazimierzowski City. This is a part of Radom delineated during the reign of Casimir the Great when the settlement grew to become the most important urban center on the northern border of Małopolska. Here we will see, among other things, the town square, the town hall, the tenement houses of Gąska and Esterka, we will peek into the parish church of St. John the Baptist, and find the relics of the royal castle and the Jewish district. From Kazimierzowski City, it is just a few steps to Radom's downtown. We will stroll along Żeromski Street. The atmosphere here will be 19th-century, and the architecture and history of Radom's promenade somewhat resemble the appearance and past of Łódź's Piotrkowska. We may peek into a few gates that hide interesting Radom secrets. Radom, as the first city in the partitioned Kingdom of Poland, also had a municipal power plant, which gained new life a few years ago. However, before we get there, we will visit the former Bernardine monastery with its preserved unique Gothic oven and sculptures from the workshop of Veit Stoss in the altar. There will also be relics of the once-rich Radom industry.
