‼️ This time we will take you on an 'expedition' to the Nile Valley on the border of southern Egypt and northern Sudan. We are looking forward to a unique meeting, during which in the halls of the National Museum in Warsaw we will learn about the circumstances of the discovery of a Christian cathedral in the sands of the Kingdom of Makuria. Due to the construction of an artificial reservoir on the Nile, extensive rescue research had to be conducted. On behalf of Poland, a team of scientists and art conservators led by Prof. Kazimierz Michałowski participated in the research, racing against the constantly rising water level.
During the tour of the 'Faras' exhibition, we will tell you, among other things:
✅ About the beginnings of Christian art along the Nile and its influence on Eastern Christianity,
✅ About the significance of Faras during the heyday of Christian Makuria
✅ About the isolation from other Christian communities after the Arab conquests
📌 WHERE AND WHEN? We meet on January 17, 2025 (Friday) at 5:30 PM in front of the entrance to the National Museum in Warsaw. The tour will last about 1.5 to 2 hours.
📌 FOR WHOM: we encourage adults, and in the near future, we plan tours for families with children.
