'Throw away the nonsense, brother, and come to Praga' – these words are known by every self-respecting Varsovian. Their message is very simple, but there is a lot of truth in them, as Praga is indeed a place worth visiting. World War II treated this part of the city quite kindly, which allows us to feel the spirit of true pre-war Warsaw here. Narrow streets lined with a ribbon of historic tenement houses, famous chapels hidden in Praga's courtyards, beautiful staircases, brick walls of old factories, abandoned market squares that are a reminder of the district's trading past – all of this contributes to the unique atmosphere of this place.
We invite you on a tour in a historic 'cucumber,' during which the guide will introduce you to the fascinating history of Praga and reveal the secrets hidden in Praga's courtyards. On board the bus, you will learn, among other things:
- where the first tram left for the streets of Warsaw
- where advertising inscriptions from the tsarist past have been preserved
- why Prime Minister Cyrankiewicz used to come to Brzeska and why it was called 'bimberstrasse'
- who Wicuś the sailor was
- who got the whole district drunk in a few minutes
- what 'kotleciarze' did
- where 'Biały Jeleń' soap was produced
This is of course just a tiny part of the attractions that await you on the route. The streets of New Praga, Różycki Bazaar, Wedel factory, Soho Factory are just places on the map, but for our guide, they will be a starting point for weaving a captivating story that will momentarily transport you back in time.
Rides in the historic 'Cucumber' through Praga take place every Saturday at 11:00 AM. The tour starts at Defilad Square. Look for the Jelcz and let yourself be infected with love for Warsaw.
