Legendary pubs of the Polish People's Republic are a unique tourist attraction that saw the light of day in 2017. The idea for this trip was very simple. We gather our friends, board the historic Jelcz 'Ogórek,' and a passionate and knowledgeable guide bombards us with a huge amount of funny anecdotes under the sign of the binoculars and the jellyfish. To better immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of bygone times, we stop at three venues that take care of the appropriate level of fairy-tale mood in our bodies and do not forget that a snack is mandatory.
Wanting to give this event a completely different dimension, we decided to refresh our formula, and since the beginning of 2019, we have been traveling under the slogan: 'alcohol is for people, but you have to know how to drink.'
It's not that we are ashamed of anything. Our trip is a high-level event, and every guest will admit it. We are also not ashamed of the most frequently spoken word during the trip. Vodka is our national good. This drink is known and appreciated all over the world. The French have wine, the Scots have whisky, and the Americans have bourbon. However, we want to change the perception of this drink and restore its rightful place. The problem, after all, does not lie in the product itself. We pondered for a long time on how to sneak an educational element into our trip until the invaluable Museum of Polish Vodka came to our aid.
During the trip, we will pop into the Museum of Polish Vodka for a moment to learn more about the drink whose potential we may not appreciate. Have you ever been to a vodka tasting? Can you distinguish vodka made from potatoes from that made from wheat or rye? After our trip, you will definitely be able to. Just remember that you have to know how to drink:)
And besides that, according to the old custom, the Legendary Restaurant Kameralna will treat us to żubrówka and cucumber, in the café Jaś & Małgosia we will try homemade cucumber, lard, and rye, and in the famous pub W Oparach Absurdu we will sip exquisite vodka accompanied by herring.
Our guide will bombard you with countless stories about such legends of Warsaw as: Agnieszka Osiecka, Władysław Komar, Bogumił Kobiela, Janusz Minkiewicz, Gustaw Holoubek, Marek Hłasko, Andrzej Łapicki, Janek Himilsbach, Zdzisław Maklakiewicz, or Kalina Jędrusik. The backdrop for these tales were often non-existent pubs located on the legendary path of shame or eagle's nests.
And what will you learn?
- which sailor ran a shelter on Brzeska known for the best tartare,
- to which venue one would go by a watering can,
- what the snack called 'inwalid' was, and what the binocular and jelly were,
- who enjoyed a cocktail made from chicken broth and vodka,
- in which pub the only thing that was inappropriate was a false denture while eating a cutlet,
- where the Polish James Dean kept his duty jacket and why he wore a poncho made of a tablecloth,
- who hit a waiter with a pickled cucumber, causing a regular war,
This is, of course, just a small part of the attractions that await you on the route. The guarantee of good fun is the presence of our exceptional guide. Rafał Dąbrowiecki is a Warsaw guide and the creator of the portal 'Butem po Wawie,' which for several years has been taking Warsaw residents on very popular city walks. The route we will take is his original idea.
Such a trip can be an excellent idea for a pub prelude to good fun. The trip will last 2.5 hours. The price includes several shots of vodka and a snack, as well as a tasting at the Museum of Polish Vodka.
The trip starts every Saturday from pl. Defilad at 19:00. It ends also at pl. Defilad. Look for our 'Ogórek' in front of the main entrance to the Palace of Culture and Science from Marszałkowska Street.
