THE RUBBER KEYED WONDER tells the story of the legendary home computer ZX Spectrum, conceived and created by Sir Clive Sinclair. Launched to the world in 1982, the ZX Spectrum model sold in millions of copies, and due to its low price and availability, it quickly became one of the most important technological innovations of its time, opening the door to a whole new world of possibilities for millions of people. The ZX Spectrum enabled many users to learn programming and create their own games, which helped kickstart the British video game industry in the 1980s.
THE RUBBER KEYED WONDER presents the development and creation of the ZX Spectrum from the idea to its first release, as well as the financial and prestigious success it brought to Clive Sinclair. It also analyzes the impact of subsequent versions of the computer and recalls the vast array of games that were developed for the Spectrum, including: Jet Set Willy, Knightlore, Chuckie Egg, Ant Attack, Saboteur, and many others.
The film is very nostalgic and contains rare archival materials combined with new interviews with the original Spectrum designers, Sir Clive's son and nephew, as well as some of the greatest game creators on the Spectrum, who share their memories of the spectacular development of the ZX Spectrum and its extraordinary inventor, Sir Clive Sinclair.
Whether you are a fan of the ZX Spectrum, grew up in the 80s or 90s, or simply love video games or the history of technology, this film is for you!
'My goal is to define the real needs of people and develop products that will bring real benefits to people and do this at a price they can afford (Sir Clive Sinclair).'
