Paweł Smoleński (1959—2023) — reporter, publicist, worked as a journalist for 'Gazeta Wyborcza' since 1989, previously collaborated with underground publications. For 'Israel No Longer Flies,' he received the Beata Pawlak Award in 2006. For 'Wormwood Syrup,' he was nominated for the Kazimierz Moczarski Historical Award in 2018, and for 'Red Snow on Etna,' he was nominated for the readers' award of the monthly 'Kraków i Świat' in the 'Portraits' competition.
He is also a laureate of the Kurt Schork Award, the Polish-Ukrainian Reconciliation Award, the award from the Lviv magazine 'Ji' – the most important Ukrainian cultural studies journal, and the Premio Kapuściński awarded by the Italian Geographical Society, the Festival della Letteratura di Viaggio, and the family of Ryszard Kapuściński.
