We will host 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑡𝑒̨ 𝑀𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑗𝑠𝑘𝑎̨ – a cultural studies expert and author, with whom we will discuss the creation of social archives and how to reconstruct the history of the city from the perspective of its residents.
📅 November 15, Friday, 18:00
📍 Dom Sztuki, ul. Sztuki 17
What are ℎ𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑒 𝑜𝑑𝑑𝑜𝑙𝑛𝑒? They are stories about everyday life and work, ordinary and unusual histories, sometimes difficult, but always important and constructive. Although they have not always been heard, they definitely deserve to be told.
Meetings in the series 𝐻𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑒 𝑜𝑑𝑑𝑜𝑙𝑛𝑒 provide a space for folk and workers' histories, stories from villages and cities, and research on social and class changes. We combine theoretical perspectives with personal experiences, scientific knowledge with artistic practice, and local threads with global trends.

Bottom-up histories are a new initiative that we are launching as Dom Sztuki. Our goal is to establish the Social Archive of Grochów, which aims to complement history with previously absent threads and build local identity. This year, we will invite you to the first exhibition in our history, which will be preceded by a call for archival photographs. We will publish a collection of diaries selected in a competition. We will invite you to literary workshops and theoretical meetings, and we will also initiate a series of podcasts related to social class issues, labor history, non-normative or rural topics.

Dom Sztuki is a space for integration and collaboration. A place where we live, run a cooperative garden, and organize events. Since 2021, we have been active in Grochów, Warsaw. We draw from the history and identity of our neighborhood. So far, we have opened a library for book exchange, invited people to summer film screenings, and co-created a cooperative garden. We organized a series of events about the city and climate called 'Grochów szczęśliwy,' and as part of the 'KIBBUTZ' project, we conduct activities related to the Jewish agricultural farm in Grochów. For this project, we were awarded in the S3KTOR competition organized by m.st. Warsaw.
