Magdalena Shummer describes her style as poetic realism. However, her works are not only poetic but almost magical. The artist's paintings are characterized by an extraordinary attention to detail, visible primarily in the small elements of fantastical plants or the details of interiors that serve as backgrounds for portraits and genre scenes.
Animals are always present in the artist's paintings – not only beloved cats, dogs, and farm animals, but also wild ones, usually placed in natural settings. These animals are always the most important subject in the artist's painting, even if they are in the background and seem merely to accompany humans.
