He was born in Brighton (UK) in 1968. Initially, he was interested in hip-hop, disco, and ska. As a teenager, he became a DJ and shifted his musical fascinations from hip-hop to acid house and then rave. In the early 90s, he released his first official productions under various pseudonyms and for different labels.
Then he founded his own label, Magnetic North, for which he recorded a lot of material, but success came to him only with three EPs from the Red series for Bush Records. The good club material appealed to both techno and house fans. The cover of the album Red 1 Then came the time for a full album - 'Archive One.' Released in 1996, the album features very diverse music. The first track 'Rhapsody In Red' is a grand, monumental symphony. Then there is a whole series of club, strong techno known from the Red EPs, a very danceable house track 'Southside,' and several hip-hop-infused tracks. Despite the very good reception of the album, since then until today, Clarke has hardly created his own music. He is almost exclusively engaged in making remixes and recording compilations, of which it is especially worth listening to the two parts of Electro Boogie (!K7) featuring classics of electro music and the two-disc mix 'World Service.'
He is definitely one of the best, most recognized, and busiest British DJs. He resides in clubs like Bugged Out, Shine, in the Belgian Fuse, or Nitsa in Barcelona, constantly traveling around the globe playing mainly pure techno. His radio sets can often be heard, for example, on Radio One. Fans of technical sounds surely hope that Dave Clarke has not yet said his last word as a creator and that he will finally release something as good as the Red series.
