We cordially invite you to the first meeting of the “Melodies of Politics” series, organized as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Political Science and International Studies. On November 7, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Auditorium of Professor Jan Baszkiewicz in the WNPISM Auditorium Building, a unique event will take place, combining the world of classical music with reflection on politics.
The event is co-organized with the Faculty of Cultural Studies and Arts at the University of Warsaw, the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw, and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
During each of the five meetings, we will listen to inspiring lectures conducted by distinguished professors from our faculty, which will bring closer the history and contemporary issues of political science. The lectures will be complemented by concerts of classical music, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of the meeting of art and science. The entire event will last about 90 minutes.
The first lecture titled Manipulation and Machiavellianism will be delivered by Professor Mirosław Karwat. The professor will introduce participants to issues related to techniques of influencing society. Following this, there will be a solo concert by pianist Józef Domżał, who will perform the following pieces:
1. F. Chopin – Barcarolle in F-sharp major, Op. 60
2. F. Liszt – After a Reading of Dante. Fantasy quasi Sonata
3. K. Szymanowski – Variations in B minor, Op. 3

Józef Domżał was born in 2003 in Warsaw into a family of musicians. In 2022, he graduated with honors from the Zenon Brzewski Secondary Music School in Warsaw in the piano class of Wilii Ochocka-Janusz and began studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in the piano class of Professor Wojciech Świtała and the composition class of Dr. hab. Tomasz Jakub Opałka. Since October of this year, he has been in the piano class of Dr. hab. Konrad Skolarski. Since the age of 12, he has been perfecting the art of piano improvisation under the guidance of Tomasz Januchta. He is a laureate of national and international piano competitions, recently winning, among others, 1st place and a special prize at the 21st National Piano Competition under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Konin, 1st place at the 2nd National Competition “Ignacy Jan Paderewski” in Poznań, and 1st place and several special prizes at the 1st International Chopin Competition for Young Pianists in Istanbul. He has performed in prestigious concert halls both in Poland (including the concert hall of the National Philharmonic, Zielona Góra Philharmonic, concert halls of Music Academies in Bydgoszcz, Katowice, Kraków, and Poznań, the concert hall of the Royal Castle in Warsaw, S1 studio of Polish Radio, the concert hall of the European Music Center in Lusławice, the Water Palace in the Royal Łazienki, the ATMA villa of Karol Szymanowski in Zakopane, the Birthplace of Fryderyk Chopin in Żelazowa Wola, the Chopin Center in Szafarnia) and abroad: in Germany, Turkey, Austria, South Korea, Latvia, and Lithuania. His compositions have had their premieres in the halls of the Dramatic Theatre of the Capital City of Warsaw and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, as well as in the concert halls of the Seoul Arts Center and Daegu Concert House in South Korea. He perfects his skills by participating in numerous workshops, working under the guidance of outstanding professors such as Arie Vardi, Alexander Gavrylyuk, Vanessa Latarche, Vincenzo Balzani, Roland Krüger, Andrzej Jasiński, Wojciech Kocyan, Paweł Zawadzki, Sergei Tarasov, Olga Łazarska, Andrzej Tatarski, Karol Radziwonowicz, Maria Szwajgier-Kułakowska. He has performed and actively participated in masterclasses as part of the 77th International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój, and has also performed at the “Chopin en Vacances” piano festival and the “Chopin Interpretations of the Young” Festival in Konin-Żychlin. He collaborated with the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Radosław Droń, performing a series of renditions of “The Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saëns, in a duet with Krzysztof Wierciński. As a composer and arranger, Józef collaborates with various ensembles, including Ensemble Sonore, Camerata Daegu, and the Warsaw Student Orchestra. In 2023, a CD containing his original reorchestrations of Chopin's piano concertos was released by the DUX music label, performed by Radosław Sobczak and the Podlasie Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Kazimierz Dąbrowski. He was a scholarship holder of the National Fund for Children and has received the Minister of Culture and National Heritage scholarship twice for outstanding artistic achievements.
