WE INVITE YOU!
Butoh workshops are aimed at individuals interested in self-development and expanding body awareness - those seeking their own, authentic movement and means of expression.
It is primarily a creative exploration – both within one's own resources and the surrounding space. With music in the background, in silence, or based on the words of the facilitator – inspirations lead each person to work individually and at their own pace. By dancing, we rid ourselves of unnecessary habits and explore the relationships between the realm of imagination and the true language of the body. There are no established forms, choreography, or rules – emotions and imagination have a voice.
Sample elements:
- relaxation and improvisation opening the space (inside-outside)
- dance with various types of breath
- dance in nature (the old garden behind the foundation and the area around the Iluzjon cinema)
- dance with a guiding theme (dedicated tasks, visual arts, literature)
- emotions in dance and improvisation (the language of the body)

BUTOH - a countercultural form of dance that emerged in Japan in the late 1950s. Its creators were Tatsumi Hijikata (1928-1986) and Kazuo Ohno (1906-2010). Initially working in the modern dance movement, in search of a way to liberate the body from the constraints of choreographed movements and established canons of beauty, they created a completely new, unique type of dance-performative practice.
Anita Zdrojewska - independent artist, Japanologist, Butoh dancer. For several years, she has been conducting regular workshops 'Butoh in the Butohsphere' for adults, including – particularly designed – for seniors. Since 2008, she has studied Butoh among others with Atsushi Takenouchi, Yoshito Ohno, Yukio Waguri, Ko Murobushi, Tetsuro Fukuhara, Ken Mai, Maya Dunsky. She has danced with Tetsuro Fukuhara during Japan Days in Warsaw and Joan Laage in the 'Earth Tomes' project at Fort Mokotów. She participated in the Terytoria festival at CSW Toruń with the performance 'Point Zero' and Butohpolis dancing 'Niesen' to the music of Ruff Libner, as well as in group and individual improvisations, including 'For Water,' 'Butoh Garden,' or 'Wall.' Since its inception, 'Point Zero' has developed into a triptych 'Point Zero,' 'Point Zero. Nebula,' and 'Point Zero. Continuum' (archived at the National Institute of Music and Dance). In 2018 and 2019, together with Joanna Sarnecka, she participated in the artistic-research project 'Weselekekkonshiki' presented during Matsuri and in the Butohsphere and the headquarters of the Association of Polish Architects.
In 2019, she re-performed selected works of Marina Abramović during the exhibition 'Do czysta/the Cleaner' at CSW Toruń, and the artist's latest work – 'After the Fruits...' – was presented during the 3rd edition of Butoh Kai in November 2021 and at the Hybrid Vienna Butoh Festival in 2022.
