Żywiołak is one of the most recognizable folk music bands in Poland. The group has dozens of performances both in Poland and abroad and has achieved the status of a 'pioneer' of experimental folk.
The beginnings of the Żywiołak band date back to 2005, when musicians who previously played in Kapela Ze Wsi Warszawa met, including Robert Jaworski and Robert Wasilewski, guitarist and co-founder of the Open Folk formation. The result of this meeting, later joined by vocalists Anna Piotrowska, Izabela Byra, and drummer Maciej Łabudzki, was immortalized in the memory of listeners by the band's first EP - 'Music of the Psychedelic Świtezianka' and the album 'New Ex-Tradition'. Musical innovation and bringing to light the previously unexplored artistic concept of 'folk demonology' quickly introduced the formation to the salons of folk and alternative music.
Subsequent albums: 'New Mix-Tradition', 'Global Village', 'Music of the Psychoactive Stolema', 'Songs of Half/Night' and 'Wendish Style', are musical collaborations within many subsequent artistic personalities, from which the current lineup of Żywiołak emerged.
It consists of Robert Jaworski, who consistently plays the hurdy-gurdy and Renaissance fiddle, vocalist, shamanist, and flutist Wiktoria Kwiatkowska, and bassist and lutenist Kamil Strzyżewski. This trio is ultimately responsible for the artistic shape of the band, which in December 2022 presents to listeners, preceded by the track 'Sol Invictus', another album titled 'Historical Deconstruction I'. As on previous albums, the band draws on pre-Christian symbolism and little-known layers of Polish traditions.
Based on still-functioning old Christmas carols in folklore, the band undertakes the difficult task of reconstructing the ancient Slavic myths that exist only in fragments.
It is impossible to forget the successes of the band that led it to its market position.
These included, among others, the main prize in the rock competition 'Young Wolves', the Grand Prix of the New Tradition Festival, the Audience Award at the 'Mikołajki Folkowe' Festival, the use of the band's music in the game 'The Witcher II', recordings within computer games: 'The Witcher III', 'World of Tanks' or 'League of Legends', a wild card in the Eurovision competition, and two nominations for the 'Fryderyks'.
