Good Life with ADHD (for adults) - Group Psychoeducational Workshops
Psychoeducation in ADHD is usually the first step towards taking care of your needs and emotions to increase the comfort of living with ADHD.
It does not replace pharmacotherapy or psychotherapy, but it allows for a better understanding of the causes and consequences of ADHD, as well as indicates strategies that will improve daily life with ADHD. Our meetings are more than just psychoeducation; they will have three components: an educational part, a practical part, and support groups. We will familiarize ourselves with practical techniques for regulating emotions, increasing focus, work organization strategies, and task planning helpful in ADHD. We will also discuss strategies helpful in building relationships with a partner with ADHD. The group nature of the workshops will provide an opportunity to meet other adults with ADHD, allowing us to share experiences and create a sense of community.
We invite both individuals diagnosed with ADHD and those who suspect they may have it. Partners of individuals with ADHD and parents of children with ADHD who notice symptoms in themselves are also welcome.
The workshops will consist of 10 meetings (each lasting 2 hours). One of the meetings will be with Dr. hab. J. Jóźwiak from PsychiatraPlus (https://www.youtube.com/@psychiatraplus), a psychiatrist specializing in ADHD and author of the book 'You Don't Outgrow It. A Compendium of ADHD.'
We meet on Thursdays from 20:00 to 22:00 at Ukiyo, Mokotowska 48 in Warsaw.
We start on September 26 and end on November 28.
Number of participants in the group: 12.
Cost of the workshop: 2200 PLN.

AGENDA:

What is ADHD? Facts and myths. The latest research. Neurobiology of ADHD. ADHD subtypes - do they really exist? What are the most common symptoms of ADHD and which ones most affect your life? What books about ADHD are worth reading? Community of experiences in the group.
2. Emotions in ADHD
Managing emotions in ADHD: emotional dysregulation: emotional overreactivity, emotional lability, irritability, or impulsivity. Also, sensory overload, rejection sensitivity - RSD, inner critic, and many other aspects.
How to build a healthier relationship with your emotions? We will learn self-regulation techniques, ways to reduce tension, and discuss methods for working on impulsivity. By sharing experiences in the group, we will discuss those areas of emotional life that are the biggest challenge for you.
3. Impulsivity in ADHD
Why are people with ADHD impulsive? We will look at the difficulties in inhibiting impulses in ADHD. We will identify dozens of manifestations of impulsivity in ADHD - it can manifest in surprising ways. We will discuss areas of daily life that impulsivity affects and techniques helpful in managing impulsive reactions.
4. Hyperactivity in ADHD
The stereotype of the hyperactive boy? Like impulsivity, hyperactivity in ADHD manifests in many ways: involvement in dozens of initiatives, racing thoughts, intense travels, being in constant motion, creativity, and many others.
How to regulate your nervous system? Why is this crucial in ADHD?
5. Attention regulation disorders
Why do people with ADHD have difficulty regulating attention? Hyperfocus or difficulty maintaining concentration? How to recognize and minimize distractors? What helps maintain focus on tasks?
We will look at techniques to improve focus, strategies for knowledge acquisition, and ways to cope with procrastination and perfectionism (masking ADHD).
6. Work organization, time management, life hygiene
Difficulties with attention regulation, time blindness, etc., also affect difficulties with work organization, task planning, setting realistic goals, and prioritizing.
Together, we will discuss effective time and work organization techniques. We will explain why routine and habits are an important part of self-care. We will talk about how to realistically plan your day and week, how to set priorities and goals, and how to manage time to avoid chaos, tension, and stress.
We will also discuss the importance of life hygiene in ADHD: healthy sleep, physical activity, and balance between work and rest.
7. Motivation and problem-solving
Why do people with ADHD find it harder to achieve goals and implement plans? We will discuss ways to maintain motivation at every stage of goal achievement. We will talk about how to care for the source of dopamine from daily activities, how to build a system of motivating rewards. We will explain how to organize space and daily routines to support your goals. How to manage finances effectively?
You will learn why it is sometimes so difficult for people with ADHD to make changes. We will also share our ways of working with anxiety.
8. Relationships in ADHD
Neurodiversity affects our relationships: romantic, friendly, and professional. We will share experiences of how ADHD has impacted our relationships, friendships, and acquaintances.
We will discuss those ADHD symptoms that disrupt relationships. We will talk about how to communicate in ADHD to build healthy relationships. How to strengthen your gentle assertiveness? What techniques are worth trying to build a supportive relationship with a partner with ADHD?
9. Meeting with a psychiatrist specializing in ADHD
Pharmacotherapy in ADHD. What medications are used in ADHD pharmacotherapy? What is their mechanism of action? How do they affect us, and do they have side effects? Does non-pharmacological treatment make sense?
These and many other questions will be answered by the special guest of the workshops: a psychiatrist specializing in ADHD therapy.
10. Development, Creativity, Strengths of ADHD
People with ADHD are extremely creative and have innovative ideas. They also demonstrate great empathy and can have enormous energy for action (or a complete lack of it - paralysis). How to build a life based on our strengths, talents, and resources? How to manage resources to support your goals?
How to support psychological flexibility and adaptive thinking (ACT)?
In the last workshop, we will summarize the most important issues for us, and with this positive note, in a group of mutual support, we will conclude the process.
