In mid-September, we return with our Monday qigong workshops to the Museum of Asia and the Pacific. Participants will have the opportunity to either learn or deepen their practice of the so-called Method of 15 Qigong Exercises from Wudang, as well as a range of
breathing exercises, both traditional and those resulting from contemporary scientific research.
Since qigong is popularly referred to as 'Chinese gymnastics,' beginners should be aware that – as in any system of internal energy arts – it is not typical body gymnastics, but the appropriate breath and concentration of the mind that are the most important elements of the practice. And this is the nature of our workshops. Each workshop will include both a review of exercises and introduce new ones. While it is best to participate in the entire cycle, one can also attend individual
workshops. Due to the limited number of places, prior registration is required in each case.
🟠 A few words about the Method of 15 Qigong Exercises from Wudang.
The Wudang Mountains in southeastern China, through centuries of practice by the Taoist monks who settled there, have become a center of neigong, or meditative-spiritual exercises,
which are the foundation of neijia, the so-called internal martial arts: taijiquan, xingyiquan, and baguazhang. One of the systems of Wudang qigong, practiced for centuries in the famous
Purple Cloud Monastery (Zi Xiao Gong), was the so-called Method of 15 Exercises. It was not until the early 20th century that its abbot, Xu Beng Shan, began to teach it outside the monastery. The system
was passed down through the next two generations of masters, Bei Xi Rong and Sun Hai Yun. It was from them that Dr. Yves Réquéna, a French doctor, acupuncture specialist, and founder in 1989
of the first qigong school in Europe: the European Qigong Institute in France, learned the aforementioned method and began to promote it among his students and
patients, documenting its health benefits.
Once again, using Dr. Réquéna's teachings, we will practice both static and dynamic sequences of Wudang qigong together. They often have symbolic and
illustrative names, such as 'Four Elephants Strengthen the Yin Energy of the Kidneys,' 'Turtle Swallows Yang Energy,' 'Tiger Topples the Mountain,' or 'Dragon and Tiger Meet.' So far at MAiP, we have focused on selected sequences of the Method of 15 Exercises.
🟠 During this cycle, we will familiarize ourselves with all the exercises.
