Enter the world of the Łazienki ornithofauna and discover many interesting bird species. Workshops combined with walks through historic gardens will be led by experts from the National Society for the Protection of Birds: Fatima Hayatli - an ornithologist, a passionate and professional ringer, and Łukasz Wardecki - an ornithologist, bird ringer, participant in numerous research projects.
The Royal Łazienki is an extraordinary area characterized by ancient, diverse tree stands and a rich network of canals and ponds, making it possible to encounter many interesting bird species here. To better understand this group of animals, we invite you to a series of workshops combined with walks.
The workshops will take place at the Ecological Education Center in the New Palm House, and the walks will be in the Łazienki gardens. Birds are a very specific and diverse group of animals. To get to know them better, we must adapt to their lifestyle, which is why the times of individual workshops vary.

DATES AND TOPICS OF MEETINGS
'Owls'
📆 March 22 (Friday), 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Hooo…hoo..hooooo! Sounds familiar? This is the transcription of the voice of the tawny owl - the owl that reigns in Warsaw, including in the Łazienki! What do these birds eat? Where can they be found? Do they really have anything in common with witches? Discover with us the secrets of the Łazienki owls, and more. First, at the Ecological Education Center, we will learn about the biology and ecology of owls, including cultural issues related to this group of birds. We will also transform into professional ornithologists and try to analyze owl pellets. Then we will go for a walk to conduct owl listening sessions in the Łazienki gardens.
Please bring flashlights and binoculars and dress according to the weather conditions.

'Woodpeckers'
📆 April 20 (Saturday), 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM
In the scale of Warsaw, the Royal Łazienki is a unique area for protected birds, whose presence indicates the good condition of forest environments. Five species of woodpeckers (out of ten found in Poland) nest here, and one is a regular visitor. Although woodpeckers are resident birds, observing them requires more experience. During the breeding season, which lasts from March to May, they actively defend their territories by drumming or vocalizing; conflicts with neighbors often occur. During the workshop with the ornithologist, we will learn about specific species of woodpeckers from the Royal Łazienki. We will find out about their habits, what a 'forge' is, what drumming means, and whether the sounds of each woodpecker are identical. On the walk, we will search for these extraordinary primary cavity-nesters, which are so important in every ecosystem. Please bring binoculars and dress according to the weather conditions.

'Bird Voices'
📆 May 11, 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Spring is the time when we hear the most diverse bird songs. Why at this time of year? What purpose does it serve the birds? Can they mimic other sounds, such as a car alarm? Which bird from the Polish avifauna is the best singer, and which is the worst? In the workshops, we will learn the secrets of bird communication and its physiological aspects. During the walk, we will learn to recognize the voices of specific species from the Łazienki gardens. We will create a list of encountered birds, and our results will complement data collected in Poland during the World Migratory Bird Days, which take place from May 10-12. This will contribute to increasing knowledge about the national avifauna. Please bring binoculars and dress according to the weather conditions.

'Ducks'
📆 July 6, 2024, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
🎫 Online tickets [https://kicket.com/wydarzenia/ornitofaune-warto-znac-kaczki-warsztaty-dla-doroslych-22241?eventId=275690](https://kicket.com/wydarzenia/ornitofaune-warto-znac-kaczki-warsztaty-dla-doroslych-22241?eventId=275690)
Ducks are birds that are loved by visitors to the Royal Łazienki. In addition to our native mallards, we can also encounter exotic mandarin ducks, which have inhabited the Łazienki gardens for many years and are doing well. However, the greatest excitement is probably caused by the mergansers - fish-eating ducks that nest in ancient tree stands and then lead their young to the Vistula. During the meeting, we will learn about the biology and ecology of the dabbling duck species. We will find out why birds are ringed and whether anyone can do it. We will learn how to read numbers from bird rings and where to enter them to obtain information about encountered individuals. In the workshop part, we will try our hand at reading rings and entering them into the POLRING system. An experienced ringer with qualifications will conduct a demonstration of ringing a duck.
September 21, 2024, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM - 'Bird Monitoring'
Descriptions of subsequent workshops and walks along with links to purchase tickets will appear on the website in the weeks preceding each event.
