EABS continues the tradition of the Polish school of jazz, simultaneously escaping many sound schemes and presenting an original approach to established musical standards. The band's sound is accompanied by the idea of 'reconstruction from deconstruction.' This characteristic form refers to hip-hop, samples, and loops, which, through the medium of expression that is jazz, allows for a completely new and unique composition.
Such was the debut album of EABS titled “Repetitions (Letters to Krzysztof Komeda)” entirely dedicated to the works of the legend of Polish jazz - Krzysztof Komeda. This album received very high ratings among jazz critics and - perhaps due to its unorthodox approach - also appealed to younger audiences. Thanks to this and the unselfconscious blending of various musical influences, EABS quickly emerged as one of the most important jazz bands, breaking genre barriers and performing not only at the largest jazz festivals such as Jazz Jamboree, Jazz nad Odrą, Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, or Bielskiej Zadymce Jazzowej, but also successfully presenting themselves to audiences at Woodstock, Open'er, or participating in the Męskie Granie tour. EABS has released nine highly acclaimed albums.
In addition to tracks from the first album, the band will present excerpts from the material currently being prepared under the working title: 'Repetitions II (Sketches of Krzysztof Komeda).' It is based on very early and never recorded scores of Komeda from his high school period, discovered by Krzysztof Balkiewicz.
The organizer of the competition is the EuroJAZZ Foundation.
The sponsor of the competition is Warsaw Breweries, and the partner is BOSZ Publishing. Funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the National Center for Culture program: Culture - Interventions. Edition 2024.
