The first mentions of the village of Służewiec date back to the 14th century. In the second half of the 20th century, the area transformed into Służewiec Przemysłowy. Currently, we have here 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗢𝗥, the largest and most famous office hub in Poland. In social consciousness, the Tolkien-inspired name has been functioning for a decade, but the office character of Służewiec Przemysłowy has been shaping since the memorable political transformations of 1989. You can learn about how fascinating and worth knowing the history of this part of Warsaw is during the walk. We invite you to discover the 'Secrets of Mordor'!
𝗝𝗮𝗸𝘂𝗯 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗸𝗶, a guide from PTTK, will lead a walk along the remnants of the former village of Służewiec, industrial plants: TEWA, UNITRA, ZREMB Elevator Factory, Mazowszanka, Meat Processing Plant. You will learn about the creation of the Prototypes Estate and visit iconic places mentioned by the residents of Służewiec: the Amazonka bar, the Janosik bar, Antolakowa pastry shop.
Free admission! No registration required.
The walk will start at 11:00 in front of the main entrance to 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗸𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘄 (from the side of the European Union Roundabout).
The route of the walk is based on the geocaching game [gr. geo – Earth, eng. cache – to hide, stash, hideout], which involves finding stashes, so-called caches in interesting historical/natural/cultural places. As part of the 'Secrets of Mordor' project, 9 caches have been prepared, most of which will be visited during the walk.
𝗣𝗿𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺 at 10:00, at the KADR Cultural Center, there will be a ceremonial opening of the 'Secrets of Mordor' trail and a short introduction to what geocaching is. If you are interested in the event and do not yet know anything about geocaching, we encourage you to familiarize yourself with the informational materials available at the link: https://geocachingwarszawa.org/geocaching/.
The walk is conducted as part of the 'Secrets of Mordor... and the surrounding area' project co-financed by the Museum of Polish History in Warsaw under the 'Patriotism of Tomorrow' Program.
The project is implemented in partnership with Westfield Mokotów, the Friends of Warsaw Society, the social archives portal of Służew and Służewiec, the Better Służewiec Association, Geocaching Warsaw Association, and SP 191.
