We invite you to the second-to-last walk with Tomasz Lec!
MDM is an area that has recently become quite fashionable and has several studies undertaken too late, when practically none of the ground floor commercial interiors have survived intact.
Architecture that was long viewed solely ideologically has finally been tamed and appreciated, yet it has not been subjected to due protection. It has been insufficiently noted that many of the material and spatial solutions are based not so much on the dictates of socialist realism, but on the 'norms' of interwar luxury architecture. This particularly concerns interiors, including the selection of marbles, the placement of wall compositions, mosaics, and above all, functional solutions. For example, the Cepelia store on the western side of the MDM square was an implementation, or rather a continuation of a project published in the pre-war Arkady (monthly magazine).
The walk will showcase preserved relics of furnishings, the last elements of original metalwork, and finally take a look at new renovations and interventions in the space of this fascinating complex.
