'The 'Puss in Boots' is a European folk tale with Italian roots.
The titular hero is a cat who, with the help of tricks and cunning, brings about the marriage of his master to a princess.
In Polish literary tradition, the character of Puss in Boots appeared in an adaptation by Ewa Szelburg-Zarembina. The story was published for the first time in 1954. In the finale, the titular hero, the owner of the cat, does not want to take over the estate of the evil sorcerer and exploit the peasants.
In contrast, the verse drama by Jan Brzechwa titled 'Puss in Boots' was published in 1966. Realized in the form of a radio play, it dominated the story of Puss in Boots for many years. In the conclusion, the king gives his daughter to the miller, and the cat becomes a great hunter hunting mice.
