In a series of meetings with the LAUREATES of the LITERARY AWARD M.ST. of WARSAW
we invite you to a CITY WALK led by MICHAŁ KSIĄŻEK.
Michał Książek, author of 'Atlas of Holes and Cracks,' laureate of the Literary Award m.st. Warsaw 2024 for a book on Warsaw themes, leads a walk through the city center. We are looking for extraordinary plants that fight for survival in the metropolitan space and sometimes adapt quite well. We observe nature, learning to be mindful of the non-anthropocentric world around us.
Sunday, September 22, at 3:00 PM
We start from Big Book Cafe MDM, ul. Koszykowa 34/50
Attention! Registration is required for the walk.

Michał Książek – a Polish poet, journalist, forest engineer, and ornithologist is one of the most interesting contemporary authors writing about the natural world.
His 'Atlas of Holes and Cracks' is a carefully crafted journal of wild nature, sometimes within reach, but mainly beyond the reach of human sight; nature stubbornly persisting in a city of concrete and plastic. A poetic journal in which the author guides us through urban paths, wild areas, and ruins, literally and metaphorically bending over all forms of life that find enough margin between the hedge and the curb, a crack of existence between the fence and the sidewalk.
The Jury of the Literary Award m.st. Warsaw awarded the author for 'the insight of perspective, sensitivity (not to be confused with sentimentality), vigilance, and poetic mindfulness towards the entire non-anthropocentric world of nature, including that in the space of a large city, which adapts quite well to new conditions.'
The event is part of a series of meetings with the laureates of this year's 17th edition of the Literary Award m.st. Warsaw – the oldest distinction for writers awarded in the capital and one of the most important literary awards in Poland. The history of the award, reactivated by the resolution of the Council of m.st. Warsaw in 2008, dates back to the pre-war period. This year's competition for the best title of the past year was traditionally held in five categories: Prose, Poetry, Comics and Graphic Novels, Children's Literature, and Books on Warsaw themes. A total of 755 titles were submitted for the competition.
The jury consisted of: Justyna Sobolewska (chair), Maciej Jakubowiak (secretary), Jarosław Klejnocki, Anna Kramek-Klicka, Piotr Sadzik, Agnieszka Sowińska, Karolina Szymaniak.
The founder and organizer of the award is the Capital City of Warsaw.
In Big Book Cafe MD, we will host the authors of all the awarded books this year in September and October.
