Andrzej Jagodziński - pianist, accordionist, horn player, composer, and arranger. He has always been interested in classical music. Initially, his musical career was typical for a classical musician. He went through all levels of music education. While still studying at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the horn class, he got a job with the Polish Radio and TV Orchestra in Warsaw, where he played for five years. During his studies, he became interested in jazz music.
He learned it by playing the piano. Over time, he dedicated himself mainly to this style. Almost from the beginning of his jazz career, he collaborated with leading Polish jazz bands: including Old Timers, Swing Session, String Connection, Zbigniew Namysłowski Quartet, Janusz Muniak Quartet, Quintessence, and Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski Quartet. In 1987, he began collaborating with Ewa Bem, a leading Polish jazz vocalist.
In 1993, he created the classic jazz trio that still exists today. In addition to the leader, it includes outstanding musicians: double bassist Adam Cegielski and drummer Czesław 'Mały' Bartkowski.
Referring to his classical roots and utilizing his many years of experience as a jazz musician, A. Jagodziński created a project that combines these two musical worlds. In 1994, the album CHOPIN was released, featuring jazz arrangements of F. Chopin's music. The album was recognized by the readers of Jazz Forum magazine as the album of the year 1994, received the award from the Polish Music Industry - Fryderyk '94, and the Melomani '94 award - from the Łódź Association of Music Lovers. This project became a passport and invitation to musical stages around the world. This success solidified Andrzej Jagodziński's belief in the correctness of choosing an artistic path that combines jazz with classical music and encouraged the creator to develop it.
Based on the playing of the jazz Trio, he began inviting classical musicians, instrumentalists, and vocalists, as well as chamber orchestras, to perform his compositions and arrangements.
The culmination of his sound and compositional explorations became his Piano Concerto in G minor for jazz trio and large symphony orchestra - The concerto was recorded with the participation of the National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and released on an album, as well as a classically structured Requiem for jazz trio, three jazz vocalists, and a classical mixed choir - the project was recorded with the participation of the leading Polish choir Zespół Śpiewaków miasta Katowice - Camerata Silesia and released on an album.
The latest inspiration for Jagodziński has become the music of the master of polyphony, Johann Sebastian Bach. The result is the album released in 2020 titled ANDRZEJ JAGODZIŃSKI TRIO - BACH. At the same time, a project was created with jazz arrangements of J.S. Bach's works for jazz trio, female voice, viola da gamba, and orchestra.
Alongside strictly musical inspirations, the composer, together with poet Wiesława Sujkowska, found creative potential in the texts of the 10 commandments. Based on this inspiration, a word-music piece in the form of a ten-part suite titled 'Decalogue - works for a better life' was created, which was released in the fall of '23 in a CD edition.
