JAKUB ZONSZAJN - THE FORGOTTEN YIDDISH LANGUAGE POET MEETING IN A POETIC-MUSICAL DIALOGUE PERFORMERS: - Alicja Kuczyńska-Krata - Marcin Styczeń On the occasion of the Sukkot holiday, we invite you to a meeting with the works of Jakub Zonszajn – writer, poet, translator, literary critic, who created in the Yiddish language. He was born in 1914 in Łuków. He studied in cheder and yeshiva. In 1928, he moved with his parents from Łuków to Żychlin, and in 1930 to Warsaw. He wrote poems, novellas, short stories, articles about literature, reports, and translations, which he published in various magazines. In 1939, he fled from Warsaw to Vilnius. He spent the war in the Soviet Union, from where he returned to Poland in 1947. In book form, he published: a collection of poems for children "Blimełech" (Flowers, 1947), a three-act drama about the war period "Professor Szwarcsztejn" (1950), "Wort un nign" (Word and Melody, 1959), and in Polish the poetic sheet "Rozdroża" (Crossroads, 1957). He died in Warsaw in 1963. After his death, a selection of his works in Polish was published. Additionally, he was the author of plays staged by the Jewish Theater: "Frejłech in sztetł" (Joy in the Town) and "Herszełe Ostropoler" (Herszełe from Ostropol). The meeting will take the form of a poetic-musical dialogue. Zonszajn's poems, translated by Jerzy Ficowski, will be performed by singer, guitarist, composer, and lyricist Marcin Styczeń. In 2024, he was awarded the Bronze Medal "Meritorious for Polish Culture Gloria Artis." Since 2024, he has been a board member and secretary of the Polish Authors and Composers Association ZAKR.
