"Art is to die for the Fatherland, but the greatest art is to live for it"
Stare Powązki is one of Warsaw's oldest necropolises, a magical place full of historic tombstones. It is the resting place of Poland's most outstanding figures. I invite you to a walk dedicated to people who sacrificed their lives for the Fatherland and left memories behind…
We meet on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 11:00 in front of the Second Gate — St. Honorata, Powązkowska Street 1. The walk is planned to last about 1.5 hours with the possibility of running a few minutes longer.
During the walk we will learn:
- Who is the forgotten poet of the Warsaw Uprising?
- Where lies the first wounded participant of the Action at the Arsenal, and where are his comrades?
- Who in a short moment swapped a "violin case" for a "Sten" and got on the nerves of the Germans?
- Where lies the ace of Intelligence?
- Who wanted the memory of many noble people to be preserved… about whom no one remembers?
- Who organized false baptismal records, and who provided shelter and care for Jewish children?
- Who organized a blood donation campaign for Jews in the Warsaw ghetto?
- Which of the women was relentless?
- Who was the last soldier from Felek's platoon?
- Where lies one of the most famous singers of the Warsaw Uprising?
- Who, through personal daring and courage, contributed to capturing objects occupied by the Germans in the area of Widok Street and Al. Jerozolimskie?
- To whom do we owe many publications and books on the conspiracy and armed struggle?
- Where lies the designer of the uprising vehicle "Kubuś"?
- Who organized care for orphaned children?
- Where lies the author of the most recognizable uprising photograph and what is that photograph?
- Where can we find the Tomb of Fighting Women?
- Where lies the organizer of the first women's mining patrols?
- and many others...
No fee is expected for participation in the walk; if you consider that the guide has earned a tip, they will be welcome.
The walk will be led by a city guide from Warszawski Zaułek. You are warmly invited and see you soon.
