In the center of Warsaw, there is a place that enchants us with silence, tranquility, and an idyllic atmosphere. A truly unique place with wooden Finnish houses, gardens, immersed in park greenery. This is Osiedle Jazdów, a green enclave in the heart of Warsaw. It was established in 1945 for architects and employees of the Bureau of Reconstruction of the Capital in three locations. Today, only a small part of the houses remains behind Ujazdowski Park, near the Parliament. Over the years, the number of houses has decreased from the original over 90 to 26 due to the construction of the Łazienkowska Route and the German and French embassies. In response to further plans by officials to demolish more houses, the Open Jazdów initiative was created in 2011, and the residents of the estate and the city stood up to defend the area. They managed to save the unique buildings along with their surroundings. Famous artists, writers, and satirists lived in the Finnish houses in Jazdów. During the walk, we will explore the nooks and crannies of Jazdów and learn, among other things: - where the gate connecting Saska Kępa with Jazdów is - how the "housing hunger" was satisfied - where the bathhouse was located - where we can see a piece of the countryside in the city - how a tsunami influenced Jazdów - where Janusz Korczak came with children - where the "Ujazdowska Republic" was - who hated getting up in the morning - where a Silent Unseen soldier lived - who is extremely friendly and might hug us and many other colorful stories about the people and places related to our walking route. 📅 Start: 6.09 (Saturday), 1 PM, ul. Górnośląska 45 (Primary School No. 12) at the corner with ul. Jazdów. 📍 End: near Jazdów Street, by the German Embassy. The walk will be led by KASIA - a blogger and licensed Warsaw guide. 📞 Tel. 505 023 782 Participation in the walk is free, but a tip after the walk will be appreciated.
