This is another journey from the stuffy clubs of Harlem and the funky basements of Brooklyn, through jazz jam sessions, to the first hip‑hop block parties. It tells the story of music born at night — on the streets, in small clubs and basements. Funk, soul, hip‑hop and jazz continue to resonate in the city groove.
On March 27 we travel back through three decades — the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s — when groove was the language of the streets and vinyl reigned as the music medium. From the turntables will come fat breaks, soulful melodies and hip‑hop classics — recordings that shaped the city’s nighttime pulse.
"City Grooves" is a moment frozen in time. A meeting with a culture where rhythm connects people and the dancefloor becomes a shared space of freedom, energy and improvisation. From the roots of funk and soul, through the birth of hip‑hop, to the jazz and electronic echoes of the ’90s — from turntables, with history, with an urban vibe.
