“Nothing But Memories” is the debut exhibition of Jan Dudek (b. 2001), in which painting becomes a means of examining how we remember.
In this practice, painting does not tell stories but investigates experience. The artist works through abbreviations and fragments of everyday scenes, constructing short sequences and deliberately removing extended narrative context. Space is left for the intensity of lived experience — the image does not illustrate an event; instead, it allows it to be felt and reread as part of a shared experience.
The applied formal reduction — oil on lightly primed linen, the exposed structure of the support, and a restrained painterly gesture — intensifies the tension between experience and its material trace. Forms and painterly gestures create space for reflection on what and why remains in memory.
