"The Knights". By drawing on the history of Poland’s clash with the power of the Teutonic Order, Sienkiewicz created a narrative that quickly became more than just a history lesson. Based on medieval chronicles, he built a sweeping depiction of battle, loyalty and national resistance at a time when Poles themselves needed symbolic support.

At the center of the story he also placed the moving love story of Zbyszko and Danusia — an intimate, emotional narrative axis that gives the novel a human dimension. "The Knights" is not only a literary classic but also a manifesto of hope and cultural strength that endured despite political subjugation.

Direction is entrusted to Jan Klata, one of the most important Polish theatre directors, active on both Polish and international stages. His body of work includes over thirty productions and many prestigious awards, including the Polityka Passport, the Golden Yorick and the Konrad Swinarski Award. The adaptation was prepared in collaboration with Jan Klata by Ishbel Szatrawska — a playwright appreciated by both juries and audiences. In 2023 she was awarded the Wawrzyn — Literary Prize of Warmia and Masuria.

After the performance there will be a discussion with the artists and invited guests.
