WICKED — The musical’s plot is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West”, which was inspired by L. Frank Baum’s 1900 classic “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. The musical tells a story that takes place before the events described in Baum’s book. The narrative centers on the friendship between two young women: Elphaba (later known as the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (known as the Good Witch of the North). The whole story is shown from their perspective and touches on issues of stereotypes in perceiving good and evil, the relativism of human behavior, hypocrisy, lack of acceptance of differences, and themes related to friendship, love, power and manipulation of public opinion.
